The thermoluminescence method was used to date burnt flint artefacts and heated sediments discovered in the archaeological layers 5, 7 and 9 of the Menez-Dregan 1 site In spite of dosimetnc difficulties related to the site location and the origin of sediments, coherent ages were obtained for layer 5 rich in fireplace remains, dating it at ca 200 ka These results are in disagreement with previously published ESR dates and support an alternative interpretation of this sedimentary sequence, unique on the atlantic coast
